On Wednesday, Aug 1st, the class of 2022 had the opportunity to listen to two former NFL players to kick-off their high school career.
Troy Smith played college football at Ohio State University from 2002-2006. Smith was recognized as an All-American and won the Heisman Trophy in 2006. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Smith joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2010, then the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks in 2011, and the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes from 2013-2014.
Donald Washington III is a 2005 graduate from Franklin Central High School. He attended Ohio State University where he was named Outstanding Freshman for the Buckeyes in 2006. Washington was one of three Ohio State underclassmen to declare for the 2009 NFL Draft where he was drafted in the 4th round by the Kansas City Chiefs. Washington played for the Chiefs for three seasons from 2009-2011. He continued his football career in the Canadian Football League in 2014 (Toronto Argonauts) and 2015 (Hamilton Tiger Cats). He is now a motivational speaker trying to inspire young athletes to rise up, steer away from wrong decisions, and chase after their dreams.
