Franklin Central Varsity Cheer attended cheer camp put on by the Universal Cheer Association July 19-21. The camp took place on the campus of Indiana University. Varsity learned ways to create excitement and engage the crowds during a game through sideline chants, cheers, and dances. They spent time learning new stunt transitions, inversions and dismounts. Above all the members of the varsity team spent time bonding and growing through team building exercises, encouraging each other during evaluations and UCA leadership training. All of the cheerleaders are excited to implement the skills they used while cheering on the Flashes this coming year.
The Varsity team earned blue ribbons in both the Game Day Evaluation and the Rally Routine. On the last day of camp, they earned a superior trophy for their outstanding performances and evaluations throughout camp. The second night of camp a jump contest occurred. Emily Washam, Class of 2021, swept the competition. She was named the Jump Off Champion. The second individual competition is the All-American cheerleader. All-American cheerleaders have their jumps, spirit, cheer and rally routine individually evaluated. Being selected an as All-American cheerleader is an honor given to individuals who have exemplified showmanship, poise, technique and crowd leading skills. Franklin Central had two cheerleaders earn this honor, Khloe Ferrell, class of 2020, and Emily Washam, class of 2021.
