Coach Matt Sweetman grew up in Franklin Township and ran under the tutelage of legendary coaches Ken Swank (FTMS) and Eric Kellison (FCHS). Like many who ran for the two outstanding coaches he found great success at both levels. Matt was captain of the 1998 State Championship team. Coach Sweetman went on to run at Indiana University under the direction of Dr. Robert Chapman. While running for the Hoosiers, Sweetman qualified for two NCAA Regional Championships in the 3000m Steeplechase, as well as competing in 7 Big Ten Championships.
After college, Matt continued running competitively and was the winner of the 2006 Indianapolis Marathon. Since joining longtime coach, Jack Spence in 2008 the Girls Cross-Country team has won 8 Sectional Titles, 8 Regional Titles, 6 Marion County Titles, and finished top-5 on the podium at the State Championships 4 times. In addition, the Girls Cross-Country Team has produced 7 All-State performers and 4 Indiana All-Stars.
Matt and his wife, Kara are both teachers and residents of Franklin Township.
