On Monday night, the Franklin Central boys soccer team played Arsenal Tech in Game 1 of the IHSAA Sectional Tournament, hosted by Warren Central. In the first half, Arsenal Tech dictated the game’s tempo, and Tech’s 2 physical Forwards caused problems for the Flashes defense. As a result, Tech was able to grab a 0-2 halftime lead over the Flashes. FC’s play was extremely uninspiring in the first half. Luckily, for the Flashes, a completely different FC team showed up ready to take on Tech in the final 40 minutes of the match. Early in the 2nd Half, Flashes defender Liam Faulds (Sr.) lofted a ball into Arsenal’s box to his brother, forward Chris Faulds (Jr.), and Chris was able to pass the ball past the Goalkeeper for a 1-2 score. After numerous more FC opportunities came up short, the Flashes struck again with 22 minutes remaining in the 2nd Half. This time it was defender Brandon Gibbs (Jr.) sending a ball into Arsenal’s box where forward Usman Kamara (Jr.) flicked Gibb’s ball deeper into the box to forward Bamlak Reidenbach (Sr.), and Bamlak sent the ball into the back of the net for the equalizer and a 2-2 score. With under 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd Half, Chris Faulds fought to win the ball from an Arsenal Tech defender, and Chris Faulds was able to turn it into a 1-v-1 fast break with Tech’s GK. Chris shot the ball around Tech’s GK and into the goal for a 3-2 score, and the Flashes first lead of the match. FC was able to close out the remaining 5 minutes of the match, and move on to the second round of Sectionals at Warren Central. The Franklin Central Flashes will battle Cathedral at 5:00 PM on Wednesday (10/9) night for the right to play in the Sectional Championship on Saturday.
