The Flashes competed in their 2018 IHSAA Sectional opener last night, and came out ready to play as the Flashes raced out to an early 2-0 lead. Senior Ethan Olnick found Sophomore Usman Kamara who was able to get around two defenders and drive home a shot past the Goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. About 5 minutes later, Usman Kamara had the ball again coming down the left side of the field, when he crossed the ball into the box to a streaking Sophomore Chris Faulds. Faulds calmly finished his shot past the keeper for an early 2-0 lead. The score became 2-1 when the Flashes were called for a questionable penalty kick, and then they conceded a second goal with 10 minutes to play in the first half to make the score 2-2. The Flashes finished the first half with multiple opportunities, but unfortunately could not convert. Ten minutes into the 2nd half, the Flashes fell behind 3-2 and spent the rest of the half trying to make up that deficit. Also during the second half, Junior GK Max Catlow saved a penalty kick to hold the score at 2-3, and Chris Faulds found Ethan Olnick for a goal in the box, unfortunately, the ball went out of bounds a half-second before Faulds crossed the ball and the equalizer did not count. The Flashes pulled a defender with 7 minutes left to try and get more offense, unfortunately the Flashes were unable to tie up the game again, and the score fell to 2-4 with five minutes remaining.
The Flashes received a great all-around team effort, and we would like to send a special Thank You to all of the Flashes Seniors (and foreign exchange student) for all of their hard-work, commitment, and excellence over the years. THANK YOU Ben Dawes, Amraj Singh, Felipe Nose’, Adam Schwark, Wes Frederick, David Hopson, Matt Law, Cole Riggs, Ethan Olnick, and Justin Tusing!
