The Franklin Central Varsity Boys Soccer team hosted Zionsville on Tuesday night (9/8), in a Hoosier Crossroad Conference (HCC) match-up. FC had it going early as they were quickly and efficiently moving the ball around the pitch and into Zionsville’s defensive third. In the opening ten minutes of the match, FC forward Chris Faulds (#21) tracked down a long corner kick for the Flashes, and Faulds was able to re-service the ball back across Zionsiville’s goal box where the Flashes outside defender Ethan Lotterer (#13) pounced on it and confidently beat Zionsville’s GK for a 1-0 lead. Both the Flashes and the Eagles competed extremely hard, as both teams earned more offensive opportunities in the first half, however, both team’s defenses were up to the task as the halftime score was 1-0 Flashes.
In the second half, the Flashes pushed extremely hard to get the score to 2-0, worked the ball into some beautiful opportunities but was unable to stretch their lead. Seniors Usman Kamara, Chris Faulds, and Connor Molter kept the Eagles’ hands full up top on their defensive side of the ball, and midfielder Lolo Paw (Jr.) controlled FC’s distribution throughout the match. In the back, Brian Witt (Sr.), Ethan Lotterer (Sr.), Brandon Gibbs (Jr.), Keegan West (Jr.), and Cooper Niemeier (Sr.) helped in the outside defender position, while Noah Vachon (Jr.) and Ethan Palmer (Sr.) controlled the center defender positions. Sophomore Goalkeeper Paul Hippleheuser recorded 9 saves, was frequently coming out of his box to make plays, played the whole match, and he recorded the 1-0 Shutout in goal.
The Flashes (5-4, 2-3 HCC) will host Perry Meridian on Saturday starting with the JV match at 10 AM, and the Varsity to follow at 11:30 AM. We hope to see you there!
