In the sectional semi-final game, the Lady Flashes beat the Lady Warriors of Warren Central High School, 6-3. Meeting for the third time in 3 weeks, the Flashes finally came out to a dominating start against Warren. The first goal was scored in the first 2 minutes of the game by Senior Savannah Kellum with the assist from fellow Senior Morgan Hackler. Hackler and Kellum would go on to dominate the rest of the game scoring and/or assisting in every goal. The second goal was scored by Hackler on a big ball assist from Junior Jaklyn Waltz. Hackler ran on and popped it in over the goalie’s head. The third goal, also scored by Hackler, was a bullet drilled from outside the 18 yard box straight into the side netting. Kellum would score the next two goals to end the half. The first a chip over the goalie’s head; and the second, a great combination play with the assist from Hackler. The halftime score would read 5-0.
To start the second half, Savannah Kellum would score her fourth goal of the game off a penalty kick from a foul on Hackler in the box. The entire starting eleven would get a break for the remaining 30 minutes of the game as valuable minutes were played from the bench. Warren would score three goals to finish the game, but because of the Flashes dominating performance, they would go on to win 6-3.
Maddie Hasseld and Alyssa Collins split time in the net. Hasseld would record a shutout and 2 saves on the night. Collins allowed 3 and had 3 saves on the night.
The Flashes play in the Sectional Championship this Saturday, 10/6, at Greenfield Central against Mt. Vernon High School. Kickoff is at 2:00pm. Go Flashes!
